How To Salvage Your Skin This Spring Break

How To Salvage Your Skin This Spring Break
With this winter’s especially freezing temperatures, you are likely counting down the days until your spring getaway. While fun in the sun may seem like the perfect antidote to the harsh weather, coming home from vacation with skin that’s dry, tired, or even sunburned can be a big price to pay. That being said, we all love to bask and play in the sunshine, so here are a few ways to avoid harm to your skin while enjoying the brightest and warmest climates...

Fake it

bronzer-yonka The technology behind sunless tanning has come a long way, making it easy to give your skin a golden kiss before you even hop on the plane. If you are able to achieve a beautiful and damage-free base tan at home, you will feel less pressure to soak up the sun once you arrive at your destination. For an irresistible glow, try Yon-Ka’s Prolongateur de Bronzage. It helps to preserve the skins balance, leaving the skin soft, with an attractive gold satin look.

Be safe in the sun

Wear SPF You already know to apply SPF daily, but are you also in the habit of reapplying every 4-6 hours when you’re out in the sun? This is crucial to protecting skin from damage. Beyond protection, be sure to avoid direct exposure to sunlight for prolonged periods in the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest. If possible, make sure to pack a wide-brimmed hat and have a shady spot near by where you can catch some relief.

Add a serum

serum The right serum can help your skin to resist pigmentation and free radical damage caused by sun exposure. A favorite of mine is the Yon-Ka Serum. This concentrate product has natural, ultra-energetic oils that nourish and regenerate deep into your skin, whether dry or oily. Apply your serum after cleansing and before your SPF or moisturizer for maximum benefits.

Snack

If you’re anything like me, you start to indulge the minute you’re at the airport. Sugary and salty snacks can do a number on your skin, meaning that your vacation diet (or lack thereof) isn’t doing your appearance any favors. In order to combat temptation, be sure to keep healthy snacks on hand so that you are less likely to reach for junk.

Hydrate overnight

creme-28 The skin on your face is delicate and I think we have stressed that exposure to the outdoor elements can be punishing. Therefore, it’s important to allow your skin to recharge while you rest by using a hydrating night cream or moisture mask to calm and balance. Hydrated skin is stronger, more resilient, and better equipped to fight off irritation. To really combat dehydrated skin, try Yon-Ka’s Crème 28. This vitamin-enhanced cream smoothes rough areas and fine lines caused by epidermal dehydration.

Relax

Relax Overbooked your vacation itinerary? Over-scheduling can lead to stress and will quickly turn what was supposed to be a restful week into a full-time job. My skin is extremely sensitive to stress, so I always make time to lounge peacefully while I’m away – which in turn, keeps me free from resulting skin reactions and breakouts. Limit alcohol

We all feel festive while on vacation, but alcohol’s dehydrating effects coupled with the dehydration that comes from sitting (and sweating!) in the sun can make you one unhappy camper. Make a conscious effort to limit your drinks to a cocktail or two and counteract each drink with a big glass of water. With these tips, you will enjoy every second of sunshine without having to worry about coming home with unwanted souvenirs like wrinkles or age spots.
