How to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolutions

How to Stick to Your New Year’s Resolutions
Do you like to set New Year’s resolutions every year? If so, you aren’t alone. Setting goals for yourself to achieve is great. But the truth is, many people abandon their resolutions before January is even over. Don’t let that happen to you! Here are six tips to help you stick to your New Year’s resolutions this year…

1. Write down your resolutions.

It may seem so simple, but take the time to actually write down your resolutions. Keep them in a place where you’ll see them every day – on your refrigerator, in your car, or even in front of your computer. Let it serve as a reminder and motivation to continue progressing toward your goal. If you’re more of a visual person, try creating a vision board filled with pictures. Hang it up somewhere you will see it so you can reflect on your goals each day. It can be an extra push to take at least one step toward your goal on a daily basis, no matter how small it may be.

2. Turn bigger goals into smaller ones.

If you’ve ever set a huge resolution for yourself, you’ve probably gotten that overwhelming feeling of wondering how in the world you’ll make it happen. It can actually be pretty daunting to think about. Instead of letting those goals scare you, break them up into smaller, actionable tasks. This makes your goal seem easier to accomplish, so you’ll be even more likely to make them happen!

3. Set deadlines.

If you give yourself an entire year to accomplish something, you’ll be more likely to procrastinate. Instead, give each of your goals a deadline. Ask yourself when you would like to accomplish each resolution by. Make sure you choose a deadline that is doable and not one that is unrealistic, which will only stress you out. You can set a deadline for your main goal and separate deadlines for all the smaller tasks you’ll have to complete to get there. It’s a great way to stay on track and monitor your progress!

4. Get support from friends.

Don’t be afraid to tell your friends and family about your New Year’s resolutions. They just might be able to help you along the way! Allow them to hold you accountable and you can do the same for them with their own goals. You wouldn’t want to disappoint your family or friends, so it serves as a fantastic motivator to push yourself to keep going. Keep them updated with your progress, but don’t be afraid to tell them about any failures, too. They just might have some great advice to offer you!

5. Forgive yourself if you mess up.

The truth is, we aren’t perfect. Any time we set a big resolution for ourselves, there is always the possibility that we may slip up once or twice or even more. The key is to keep moving forward. Don’t let one little slip-up stop you entirely! Forgive yourself for the mistake and just keep going.

6. Reward yourself.

Nothing motivates you to work hard toward your goal like a little reward! What would you like to give yourself for finally accomplishing that number on resolution of yours? Keep that reward in the back of your mind as you progress. You can even give yourself smaller rewards for hitting milestones on the way to your bigger goal. It’s sure to give you that extra boost you need to work hard!
